What if Midland Credit can't serve me but filed a lawsuit?

I'm dealing with a situation where Midland Credit Management is suing me for $2,157 in Texas. Someone tried to serve me papers, but I wasn't home either time. My brother said they wouldn't let him sign for it. I got an ad from a lawyer with a case number, so I contacted the court. The person I spoke to said they can't help much because I haven' been officially served. All the paperwork has been filed, but there's no court date yet. What's the best way to handle this to resolve it quickly?

If you want to avoid going to court, you might want to reach out to them directly and ask if they’d be willing to offer a settlement. They might be willing to settle for about 30% of what you owe. If that works, you can also ask to set up a payment plan that works for you.

I set up a payment plan with them just $50 a month on a $16,000 debt. Plus, they don’t even show up on my credit report anymore, and the original debt has fallen off my report.

So, this thing happened with Discover they didn’t sreve me right, and somehow, they’d filed a judgment against me without me even knowing. I mean, I only found out when I looked myself up on Case Search. I got a free lawyer, and they filed some kind of motion to dismiss, I think, because the serving process wasn’t done right, and that bought me some time. In the end, they tossed the case because I’d moved to another state, and by then, the statute of limitations had passed. I guess I got pretty lucky.
