Who can recommend a proactive small business accountant beyond tax lodging?

Business Accountant: Is there anyone who can give me any advice? I’m trying to figure out what to look for in an accountant. Or maybe you have recommendations for a great small business accountant, someone who won’t just do the usual lodging taxes etc.

Okay so first off, you need two accountants:
tax accountant
financial accountant / bookkeeper

They’re not the same btw ‍

Recommendations from other business owners are a good starting point. Otherwise, talk to a few and see how the first conversation goes. If you don’t walk away thinking “I want to hear more of what that person has to say,” they’re probably not the right fit.

Generally, they’ll include services beyond tax compliance as “advisory,” if they offer it.

I know a couple of good young professionals who will do more than tick boxes.

You don’t need to be able to drop into their office these days. Many accountants work with clients all over the country, just as I do with mine.
