How can I manage my budget when everything keeps getting more expensive?

Budgeting never worked for me either. Something always came up, and I'd feel guilty every time I overspent. So I gave up on budgeting and just focused on cash flow instead. Same money, just redirected differently. Paid off a $27K loan in four months that way.

My usual gas budget now nearly equals what it costs to fill my car from empty.

So I keep pulling from other areas to cover the gap. And I feel like I'm filling up more often.

I can’t control the setbacks

So for the last few months, I’ve been grinding hard to up my pace. Our tax refund + Christmas bonus paid off my wife’s car, filled our emergency fund to the top, pulled debt freedom up from 2030 to 2027, and got retirement planning started

Then my wife’s job cut everyone’s hours and pushed debt freedom back 4 months Ever since I started budgeting, I just slowly watch goals slip further away no matter how hard I budget. There’s so much I want/need on the other side of this debt, but it keeps getting delayed.
