How can I fix my credit fast before my home closing?

Help!

My husband and I plan to close on our new home September 30.

We got our pre-approval in July. My credit score dropped to the 560’s because of late payments.

The late payments are with Klarna, Capital One, and Ulta. II was disputing my Klarna charges. My Capital One and Ulta accounts are closed. My automatic payments did not process.

How can I fix this?

Oh man, if you've missed that 30 day window after a late payment, you might be in for a rough ride. If you're still within that 30 day grace period, there's hope! But if it's already past, your best move is to call up the credit card companies you know, the ones who slapped you with the late fee and explain it's your first slip up with them. Politely ask if they'd consider removing that late mark from your credit report. Also, try adjusting your clos ing date so the whole mess doesn't even show up there. Fingers crossed for you!!

Yeah, I think this might be one of those lessons learned the hard way. Unfortunately, I don’t believe this can be fixed in time. During the loan process, it’s REALLY important not to mess with your credit at all. Disputing charges, closing accounts, or having late payments are all incredibly damaging when you’re about to close.

But I’d still call the creditors and your loan officer. Sometimes you can get a goodwill adjustment or a rapid rescore. Extending closing might buy you a little time. It’s not a sure thing, btu it’s worth trying everything.

Contact your lender IMMEDIATELY. They might remove you from the loan, but that starts a new process. If your husband can't qualify alone, ask for an extension. CRITICAL: Do NOTHING with your credit during a loan. Don't use cards, open lines, close accounts, or pay anything off without asking your lender first. Avoid Klarna, Afterpay, Affirm NOTHING. I'm a retired Realtor. I always told clients this first. Good luck. I hope it resolves quickly.
