Can two debt collectors chase me for the same debt?

Oh, you can totally freeze your profiles with places like LexisNexis and PACER, plus those other public info sites. Then, you go ahead and dispute the collections with the bureaus. When the bureaus try to check if it's legit, they can't verify it, so they've gotta remove it. I've actually gotten a few of mine taken off this way. Right now, I'm just waiting for my bankruptcy discharge so I can finally get this stuff off my bureaus for good.

Too much noise. Inaccurate information drifting through these comments.

Clarity: Two collectors can chase the same debt. At once. It happens. The original creditor sells it. More than once. A mistake. Or confusion over who owns it now.

But only one has the legal right to collect. At any given time. Multiple contats for the same debt? That could be a violation. Harassment. Unfair practices under the FDCPA.

If it happens. Keep records. Every call. Every letter. Dispute in writing. Demand validation. Check. Was the debt sold multiple times? Is there a mix up with ownership?
