What can I do if Synchrony Bank/Care Credit closed my account for returned payments?

PLEASE HELP! I just got a letter from Synchrony Bank/Care Credit saying they closed my account because of too many returned payments. I had two, but I fixed the right away when I noticed. I'm calling them tomorrow, but I'm not sure what to say or do. Is there any chance they'll reopen it? I mean, mistakes happen, and I didn't miss payments on purpose.

This is brutal, and it actually happened to my mom too. She had an account for 10 years, always paid on time, no issues whatsoever. Then my sister, who was helping manage the account, changed her bank account and totally forgot to update the payment info. When she tried to pay the balance on Mom's card, it didn't go through twice. And just like that, they shut down the card. No warning, no understanding, nothing.

So, assuming they won’t reopen it… what happens when it updates on my credit report as closed with a balance? I had a full on anxiety attack last night just thinking about it, because we’ve worked SO hard on our credit, and this could mess with both mine and my husband’s scores.
