Should I Use $3000 Savings to Pay Off Credit Card?

Hey there! So, I was briefly in a spot where I could pay off some debt and save $3000,?but that’s done now, and I’m back to normal. After covering bills and obligations, I’ve got about $800 left for gas, groceries, and fun stuff. I’ve also got 3 kids 50% of the time.

I still have 2 consumer credit cards to pay off, plus a bunch of student loans.
  • Card 1: $1100 balance (APR 32.24%) with a $35 minimum payment.
  • Card 2: $4856 balance (28.15%) with a $160 minimum payment.

My question is: Should I use my $3000 savings to pay off Card 1, or just keep making larger payments on it (around $100)?

Here’s a smart way to approach your finances:

Start by setting aside $1,000 in an emergency fund. This way, you’re covered for life’s unexpected moments without needing to rely on credit cards. ️

For the rest of your money:
Pay off the smaller balance first to get that weight off your shoulders.
Then, focus on tackling the larger balance.

This strategy keeps things simple and helps you make progress without feeling overwhelmed. You’ve got this!

I’d pay off Card 1 first. Add the $100 you freed up from Card 1 to your Card 2 payments. Pay around $260 monthly to eliminate it faster. You’ll still have savings and only one card to focus on.
