Is it better to have a slightly negative, neutral, or positively geared property ?! I’m thinking about renting out my PPOR while I travel, and I’ve been playing around with a few numbers!
Right now, I’m planning to leave about $50k–$100k in the offset as a buffer + to cover day-to-day expenses, and just top it up as dividends/income come in.
From a long-term wealth point of view, is it better to have the property slightly negative, neutral, or positive while I’m away?
I’m expecting to earn around $50k–$100k p.a. from investments + some remote work, so I’m not sure how valuable the tax benefits of negative gearing really are at that level!
Also, I’m super conscious of the opportunity cosst of having cash sitting in the offset vs in ETFs!
Keen to hear how others would think about this!
