Should I accept Cavalry's 50% pay-for-delete offer on old Citi debt?

My Citi card went to collections four years ago. I disputed it. It was removed from my credit reort. Now Cavalry is reporting it as a collection. I disputed this. The debt came back as verified. I disputed it again. The outcome was the same. Now they are offering a deal. I pay 50%. They delete the collection after 60 days. The original debt was $3500.

If you can't dispute online, send a debt validation letter to the collection company. Require them to provide solid proof the debt is yours.

Depending on where you live, it might be too late for them to collect because of the statute of limitations. Most states give them about 4 5 years to chase a debt, but you should really double check the rules for your specific state. Also, remember that any debt collector has to stick to the original written agreement you had with the company you owed money to. That's exactly why the statute of limitations is so important once a debt is time barred, they legally can't collect it anymore.
