Move to Brisbane for cheaper study + jobs, or stay in Melbourne debt-free?

I'm trying to decide whether to move to Brisbane for a three-year course or stay in Melbourne with my parents and study for 4.5 years to become a land surveyor. I'm leaning toward!moving because I've heard there are more job opportunities there, which would improve my chances of finding part-time assistant work. Last year, I tried finding a job in Victoria without success, so that's a factor in my decision. If I stay here, I'll pay $100 a week for groceries and no board, but the study period is longer and I'll end up with more student debt—around $51,000 in total over 4.5 years. If I move, the study period is shorter with lower student debt (about $28,000), but I'll need to cover accommodation and food for those three years. I'd appreciate your thoughts on which option seems best.

There's plenty of work in Queensland right now.

If you're interested in technical building roles, certifier jobs are a stronger option than surveying.

You will need more qualifications but the demand is huge.

There’s a real shortage of certifiers and not enough new people joining the field.

I am a registered land surveyor in NSW. I likely would not suggest going into land surveying.

In my view, the industry will be strongly affected by AI and new technologies in 5 to 10 years. This may make it harder for graduates to find work.

If you still choose surveying, I would not advise moving away from home just to finish your degree a bit sooner. Stay with your parents and try to find work nearby.
