How much should I pay an accountant for personal and sole trader taxes?

Fellas, how much would you expect to pay an accountant to do your tax—and sole trader tax too?

It depends on many factors. These include what exactly they're doing, how clean and presentable the info is, and how many transactions. Giving them access to a Xero file is a completely different price from giving them a shoebox. A competent bookkeeper has completed that Xero. With the shoebox, you say you don't have a business bank account. You just pay for everything from one account.

Mine is simple: do it through Xero, and it goes straight to the accountant. She charges about $500 for taxes for me and my wife.

My accountant charges $200 an hour. We sat down and did it all together in 1.5 hours, so the bill was $300 plus GST. I was happy with that. I had everything ready to go, which makes a big difference. This was for sole trader/personal tax.
