How do I find the original creditor for my debt?

I will be consumer debt free by the end of March this year. I’m checking my credit reports to determine which company I owe debt to. Why won’t these third-party places tell you who the original debt is with? I can’t find that info online anywhere anymore.

Don't pay third party collectors! Your contact was with the original creditor. You didn't sign a contract with the third party. Everything's about contracts. It doesn't matter if the third party collector bought the debt they still won't have YOUR signature on a contract with them. This is real. Send a debt validation letter... you can find templates online to fill out with your info. I'd even get it notarized and send it registered mail. If they keep harassing you, report them and sue. They'll stop after you send the debt validation request.
