How do I fight a verified debt with no proper validation?

Hey there, I've been going back and forth with L.J Ross & Associates about a DTE bill. I actually sent them a validation letter last year and never heard back. I've also disputed it with all three credit bureaus, but they just say it's verified without sending any proof that I actually owe this. I filed a report with the CFPB, and the collector responded saying I emailed them on 8/3/25—but the email copy they attached was from 8/3/24. That's what they're calling debt validation, and it doesn't have any of the info I asked for. So, what should I do next?

They didn’t actually verify the debt properly. Under the FDCPA (§1692g), they’ve gotta give you enough details to really show you owe it not just forward you some old email with a new date. And since the credit bureaus keep “confirming” this stuff without solid proof, that’s also a problem under the FCRA (§611) because they’re supposed to do a legit check, not just rubber stamp it. So here’s what you can do: send the bureaus another letter asking exactly how they verified this, and let the collector know their response wasn’t good enough and that any more reporting or collecting could mean they’re breaking the rules. Hang on to every single piece of paper if they keep pushing, you might have a solid case under the F DCPA or FCRA.

So, you're thinking about filing a lawsuit? Honestly, if your complaint is solid enough, sometimes the attorney will just offer to delete the thing and wipe the balance clean you know, just to get you to drop the whole case. Wild, right?
