How do I dispute a fraudulent Credit One account in collections?

Hey, so back in 2020, I supposedly opened a Credit One card—which I definitely didn't do. Now LVNV has me in collections over it. I already disputed it, but they came back saying it's verified. I've noticed the collection amount keeps going up every single month. What can I do to fight this? I haven't gotten any!mail or phone calls from them either.

To address an account that is unrecognized, it is necessary to submit the appropriate documentation for its removal. I observe the use of the term supposingly in your statement.

Hey there, it sounds like this account was opened without your permission, which could mean identity theft or a case of mistaken identity and the good news is, you actually have some pretty strong protections under laws like the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. LVNV should have sent you something in writing within five days of reporting or trying to collect; if they didn't, that's actually a violation on their part. And fi you're seeing the balance go up each month, they're probably adding interest and fees but if it's not really your debt, then reporting it that way isn't legal.

Hey, just a heads up – it’s worth checking your own state’s debt collection laws. Some of them actually pack more punch than the federal ones like the FCRA or FDCPA.

I went after LVNV using Texas law, filed a suit, and they settled fast and paid up just to make it go away.
