Could i lose my home over credit card debt?

I fear debt collectors will soon come after me :( Maybe I'm a bit paranoid, but it's a thought I just can't get out of my head!
Has anyone ever dealt with debt collectors? Do they really just use certain threats to scare people (like, come after my home over my credit card debt!) or can they actually leave me homeless?
 
Tough question to answer. First off, where are you from? There are different laws that apply to different states. Second, how deep in debt are you? Also, did you already talk to your credit card company to see if you can come to terms and make an arrangement so that it wouldn't come to this?
