Does anyone know th e amount where someone can take you to court and garnish your wages over collections? I’ve got a Verizon account from two years ago for around $1700 and an old credit card debt of $700 from three years back. I don’t have a big chunk of money to pay it off, and it’s really messing with my credit. I’m terrified of getting a notice about garnishment one day, but some people say these amounts aren’t big enough for that. Should I start making small payments even if they’re not much?

Honestly, I think they can take action no matter the amount it really just depends on whether it's worth it to them or not. If you do end up getting served and have to go to court, you could try working out a payment agreement right away, and they might drop the whole thing.

I remember struggling with a $200 debt in my 20s. The constant calls and letters felt overwhelming. Then, after about five years, it just vanished. It’s been 15 years now, but the memory still lingers.
