What's the best way to raise credit score?

In your opinion, what's the best way to increase your credit score?
I know this is a difficult question to answer, but any piece of advice would be immensly appreciated!
So, to give you an idea, my credit score is 577 at the moment. I've also had some late payments over the last few years, and I know this is not good, but I've set my (only ) 2 loans on automatic payments already, so at least I have this detail covered!
What else can I do?

Oh my, you'r credit score is below 600, that's not good.
You made a smart move putting your payments on auto-pilot! Paying off some of the debt you owe is also helpful! You can't raise your credit score over night, you would need to be patient at least a few months. Paying of your debt month after month is a very important step!

The next thing you should do is get a copy of your credit report and attentively go over it. Make sure there are no errors, see why you have the bad credit score in the first place.
