How do I request a goodwill adjustment for a late loan payment?

Three years back, I cosigned a loan for my son, who was 19 at the time. He handled payments well until near the end, when he had money problems. He didn’t tell me and risked paying the final installment late. I only found out after it hurt our credit. I read online that we could ask the bank for a goodwill adjustment. Should he send the request letter since he was the primary borrower? If they delete the mark from his report, will mine clear too, or do we both need to write? Any advice on how to write a strong letter? It’s a small local credit union, so they might agree. Thank you for your help.

I think. A benefit. For you and your son. To call together. To the creditor. To request. Final payments. To remove it. From credit reporting. If it really was. The last payment. There is nothing. For them. To pursue. I would start. With that.

Yes, you can call and ask especially since you paid. If they say no, ask how it's legal for them to report to credit bureaus without sending a payment request to your address. You never received a monthly statement with the amount due; only he did. They are required to provide notice before escalating to enforcement.
