How can I stay motivated while paying off $88K in debt?

Just wanted to share a few words of encouragement for anyone on a debt payoff journey. I’m currently tackling about $88K in debt—how I got here is a story for another time. But what I’ve learned is this… every extra payment you make, no matter how small, adds up. It gets you one step closer to freedom.

By God’s will, I plan to be debt-free in 24 months. It sounds like a long time—but it’ll pass before I know it. I picked up a part-time job… definitely not something I wanted to do, but something I needed to do. If I want to get out of debt, I have to make sacrifices.

So if you’re in the thick of it too, remind yourself daily of your end goal. Keep showing up. Life will still happen—but don’t let setbacks discourage you. I’m using the snowball method to knock out my smaller debts first… then I’ll switch,to the avalanche method for the rest. Keep going—you’ve got this!

That's a smart move switching to the avalanche method after tackling some debts first.

I was in a similar spot with about the same amount of debt, and that approach really worked for me too.

I have a plan to become debt free in just over two and a half years likely by June 2027 clearing about $60,000. I'm using a combined snowball and avalanche approach. After paying off those four debts, if I redirect all that monthly payment money toward my mortgage, I can pay off my house in 17 years instead of the remaining 27.
