Do additional payments usually imply penalty fees?

    This is a question regarding debt and the additional repayments on a loan: do they usually imply you have to pay a penalty fee? This doesn't make sense to me at all! The lenders should be happy you want to pay off your loan at all costs. So, what's the deal with additional loan payments?
